Extension of the World Heritage with the Danish part of the Wadden Sea
The IUCN has positively evaluated the application of the extension of the Wadden Sea World Heritage and recommended to the World Heritage Committee to approve the extension.
The nominated property encompasses the Danish Wadden Sea Conservation Area and an offshore extension of the Lower Saxon Wadden Sea National Park. The application was submitted to the World Heritage Centre in Paris in January 2013.
At a field mission in August 2013, the IUCN experts have visited the German and Danish proposed extension areas to become familiar with all the aspects of the nominated property and make sure that the nomination dossier is complete.
The evaluation report is now available on the website of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre (38th Session of the World Heritage Committee) (Download report).
The decision on the nomination of the Danish and Lower Saxon extension of the World Heritage property is expected to be taken at the World Heritage Committee annual session in Qatar on 20-21 June 2014.
